When it comes to flight sims, graphics are all-important as the simulator' bit means you want an accurate depiction of the view out of the window, as well as nice-looking planes. The graphics in CFS3 are something of a mixture - the external plane models are excellent, with fantastic lighting effects, but the cockpits are far inferior to those in IL The terrain looks OK from 20,ft, with photorealistic textures like those in Flight Sim These are crap from 2,ft, when the textures get very blocky, but good at ft, when the detailed ground textures and trees come into their own.
The terrain engine seems very PC-hungry as well, and you'll need quite a bit of horsepower to get things running smoothly. You can turn detail levels down, of course, but this makes the scenery look a lot worse. The combat itself is pretty exciting, with spectacular explosions and other effects, and the enemy Al, while obviously not as good as human opponents, is improved over previous releases. Players earn prestige points when their squadron flies successful missions and these points can then be spent on ordering ground war attacks.
They can also spend prestige points to transfer to a different air base or gain a new aircraft type early. Ordering a ground offensive, however, is expensive, and it would be hard to sustain one by player intervention for extended periods of time. And, every time we tried to do it, it seemed to have little effect. The campaign engine seemed to be chugging along and doing something, but no matter what we did, we ultimately lost territory swiftly and without explanation.
It's also uncertain how useful it would be to spend points to transfer to a different airbase, as the campaign would periodically transfer our squadron with no explanation. The campaign provides little feedback to the player. Novices, and some experts too, are going to be absolutely flabbergasted because there's nothing but confusion about the ebb and flow of the front line.
Successful missions and manually triggered ground movements have little effect, there are no battle reports about what happened in the ground assaults, and there's nothing to identify what the player is doing wrong. There is no tangible link between the player's actions and the results on the line.
There's a news section players can view to see items about the war, but most are terse statements that the player's forces gained or lost particular objective, or useless trivia about what propaganda movie the troops are watching. The campaign fails to create the sense that the player is a small but significant part of a grand war because their involvement is so abstract. They do not see their efforts making a difference and there's little evidence that other friendly air and ground forces are at work.
There are artillery firings and explosions occasionally seen near the front, but the player still feels like a lone participant. Contrast this to Enemy Engaged: Comanche vs. There, a player's mission was one of several air and ground force deployments, he could watch and assist the other troops, and he could then see the front line on the strategic map actively moving with the gain or loss of objectives.
It gets worse. The time warp feature is a crucial aid to helping busy players get quickly to the action. It's one that worked well in previous CFS games, zipping the players past the dull waypoint traversals, but stopping when necessary to let them tend to the action.
It still works well for fighter missions, but falters with the game's increased emphasis on air-to-ground roles. Flying anti-shipping strikes, we noticed that the warp would send us directly to the primary target area, but wouldn't stop when passing other possible secondary targets.
The warp really breaks down on escort missions. We tried it several times and it always zapped us right by all the waypoints, without stopping to let us protect the bombers when over the target. Once you have that installed and your PC restarted, you will right click the first disc to mount it to a drive. After that open the drive like you would any other, find the setup. When it prompts for disc 2, mount the second file on the same drive you mounted the first.
Return to the installer and hit OK. Once the game finishes installing remember to set the game to run in compatibility mode for Windows XP. The game works fine for me on windows 10 following these settings and even displays in x KGB Chairman -4 points. Chris 0 point. Impossible to install. Prompts for "CD 2" then when you click the other file, nothing happens. Pile of shit. I downloaded the CFS3, however there is no setup file with it. Does anyone know how I can install it on my Windows 10 without a setup.
Any help would be appreciated. LBY 1 point. I read the support material, but honestly the jargon is a bit too much for me and I can't get this to work :- Is there a step by step set of instructions? I'm running Windows Many thanks!
To read a disc image you need a disc drive emulator like Daemon Tools or PowerISO, once you have one of those installed most are free or have shareware versions you can read disc image files in the same way your computer would read a real CD.
It's similar to opening an archive such as. On top of that you can burn these images onto a real disc if you have a disc burner and the relevant software, though in these times of gargantuan hard drives it's less space and time consuming to just keep the images on your hard disk somewhere. NigelWigglwattle 2 points. JPS 2 points. Very happy to have found this software.
I have an older version of the game , runs well under Windows XP but doesn't find the joystick when installed on my new PC under Windows With this version 3, I succeeded in installation and first tests are quite OK, no more joystick problems and graphics quality is better.
No missing file problem encountered. The game runs well now without mounting the. Up to now I didn't use the patch "3. Can anyone help? Siggy 0 point. Scared guy because of the comments -3 points. Sadly, 1 point. It appears that the link to the Rising Sun expansion that are available from the previous comment are no longer available, the pages linked on the site in the comment which itself does not host the expansions, thankfully the Solomon Islands campaign is here have apparently been lost.
Please add if you have it.
