The rate is auto negotiated at H. One-way media issues are typically related to either a and unsupported version of software on the HDX or b some type of network-related routing or filtering issue. If Lync to Lync video works fine in the same scenario then I would assume that the endpoint software version is older; make sure you are running 3. Do you know a solution for this? The MCUs are separate and how you initiate calls and meetings controls how the resources are used.
For ad-hoc calls then the user simply decides whether they want to use the RMX callto:sip:xxxx video. Jeff — Great blog. Any idea if the RMX will support Lync integration naively? Brandon, the RMX uses a different firmware than the , , and models do and unfortunately is not supported for Microsoft Integration. I've been fighting with it for about a week. But after a moment or two the video from the RMX freezes. I'll keep digging.
My company owns VSX endpoints with firmware under 9. We are planning to buy an RMX We also have MS Lync server. Will we able to make conferences like you did in your example? Thanks in advance.
Hi Jeff, Great post. Since content is video then it will replace the people video while active. Tom, content sharing natively from Lync uses Remote Desktop Protocol wrapped in SRTP media which only other Lync clients understand, it does not support sending content as video via industry standards like H. There are no video solutions on the market today which integrate with RDP. I think thats the only way to integrate multipoint without RMX — is this correct?
Hi Jeff, first of all great blogs. I just have a question about Lync integration on a cloud basis with video conferencing devices. We've heard some rumors that devices like the Polycom's video conferencing and the LifeSize video conferencing devices are not able to communicate correctly when the Lync environment is cloud based. Do you know if there are restrictions on this or if it's just rumours? Thanks in advance! I cannot speak for the Lifesize compatibility but the Polycom endpoints are treated as native Lync endpoints and do not require any gateways.
So depending on how the specific hosted service implements Lync, if full Edge services are available then our endpoints will have the same capabilities that they have in on-premises deployments. This is one of the major advantages to gateway-less, native integration. We followed your blog and polycom deployment guides. Polycom is well registered to the lync server. If Polycom call the lync client it works BUT when the lync client call the Polycom HDX, then Polycom receive only video no audio and the lync client does not receive anything no audio nor video.
I made some wireshark traces which show me that no packet are sent from Polycom and audio and video packets are received by Polycom but only video are interpreted :- …. We also have lync. Currently we are only getting audio both ways no video. Also the HDX is currently running 3. Any help would be great. So I recently did the software upgrade of the HDX to 3.
Do you also need a quad core processor to receive HD? Or is this only necessary to send HD? Firstly, yes you need a quad-core processor equipped workstation to either send or receive HD video.
We also have a VBP for making video calls outside the network. Sujoy, there is no need to unregister the HDX as it supports dual-registration to both H.
This way you can place both H. Your bloggs have ben very hepfull for my setup but I can't get mutli-point conferencing working between Lync and Polycom HDX devices. Point to point works fine though. When I setup a meeting through Lync and I try to drag the polycom sip user into it, it shows an error in my Lync client: An error occurred during the online meeting.
Or if I create a point to point meeting it works but then when I drag another Lync user into the meeting it comes up with the same error? I have enabled the mulit-pont trial option but it still does not work. Everything looks setup correctly on the polycom device, is there something I am missing in the setup on the Lync server? What should I check? Please contact your Polycom or partner contact to purchase these software keys. However I managed to create multi-point conference placing calls from HDX with multi-point trial option enabled.
Attempts to do so from Lync client failed with error as Bainsy said. MoC can call other MoC via edge server. It looks like that RMX does not use the Edge server for the external calls. Is there anyway to fix this problem? The UC integration guide linked in this article covers this configuration. Jeff and anyone — I work at at a technical college in an area with little consulting help for something this specific. Thanks to this blog we have been able to do Lync clients to a single Polycom room.
But we also have an RMX and can't get it working. Is anyone available to assist on a contracted basis or point me in a direction? I heard rumors, that in multiparty conference on Lync, could participate only one HDX endpoint. Is it true? That is incorrect, you can have any number of HDXs which are RTV-enabled join a Lync multi-party conference and only the participant limit is applicable default of per conference. So that could be Lync clients, HDXs, or a any combination. New content provider with a new HDX I am trying to get content from our document projector to show up on the other side.
No luck. What should I try? Everything integrates pretty well using your methods here , but I cannot get the checkbox for "Lync Directory" to become available. It is consistently greyed out.
Any thoughts? If you are currently using one of the other directory integration options e. I've pasted a screenshot here…I've had no luck at all searching the web for this particular issue.
SIP registration works fine. Just can't get the directory to play. Yes, it is disabled on both sides. I wondered if that would cause the option to be greyed out. There may be some other settings enabled in the HDX which is causing this. I'd suggest contacting Polycom or your partner for support on this issue.
Jeff — i am highly impressed with this Blog and it has helped a lot in understanding of the Polycom and Lync integration. What I want to confirm is the Security aspect of this integration. Also I wanted to know if we can setup some restrictions for calling the Polycom Endpoint by Lync users? I am worried about a situation where an important meeting is in progress in Polycom and one of my Lync User accidentally clicks on the "Video Call" and barges into an existing call.
How can this be prevented? Also the Blocked users capability works the same way so you can manually prevent users from calling the system. Additionally Auto-Answer can be disabled on the HDX to prevent even allowed users from 'barging in' on a meeting in progress whether the system is in a call or not.
For video conferences hosted on an RMX the virtual meeting rooms can be protected with a passcode to prevent unwanted participants as well. These systems are widely deployed in government applications and have been for some time which can adhere to the highest level of customer demand in terms of security. Jeff — As always, great blog. I recently opened a Lync support ticket with Microsoft and the after action they sent referenced your blog extensively!
Our Lync installation has a Edge server. Internally Lync users can connect to the RMX Meeting Rooms easily, but those same users coming in from outside via edge can't connect. I've played around with the RMX's ICE setting, but since it remains on the inside of the network, that seemed like a red herring.
Any idea if there are issues with external users passing through and edge server over to an RMX? One test that I would perform is to place a laptop with Lync in the same network as the RMX and test Lync peer-to-peer calls with the same external users which are not able to connect to the RMX. Thanks Jeff! Alexandre, this is not yet supported by Microsoft as differences in authentication protocols mainly ADFS currently prevent any third-party endpoints from registering directly to O But Microsoft is working with partners to provide third-party interop scenarios in the future.
Not directly. You would need to have a small on-premises Lync deployment FE and Edge which is federated to your Lync Online tenant domain and then create Lync user accounts for only the HDXs on your local Lync pool.
Is this the best I should expect? You an adjust this via your link front-end. Great article! Presence flow in the other direction works OK i. Any ideas? We are registering to Lync via the Edge Server if that could be a potential cause no direct front end registration in our environment.
Presence is supported for users on the contact list, but not user located using the directory search feature. Are you looking at the Favorites list or the Directory? Thank you for confirming that. Yes presence does show for those contacts in the HDX Lync contact list. I am working on configuring RMX integration with Lync. We are using DNS load balancing so clearly we don't have a single IP address for the front end pool, rather four one for each front end server in the pool.
Can we use the DNS pool name here instead or can we only integrate with a single front end server? Neil, you can do either. Traditionally I start with pointing the RMX to the FQDN of a single server in the pool to make sure that the integration is working as troubleshooting through load balancers ads a layer of complexity.
Understand that this only impacts outbound connections from the RMX to Lync e. VMR registration feature so even if you direct the RMX to a single pool server any calls from Lync users into the RMX will could leave any pool server and the RMX will always handle them fine regardless of its configuration.
I follow your posts for any troubleshooting help that I need and I find the answers most of the times. I am tempted to write to you to ask for this issue that I am facing. My Lync Domain is ex abc.
The handful of users who we allowed for remote access, we changed their SIP to abc. The IM, Audio and video calls works fine. Now, I wanted these users to also participate in the RMX hosted video calls. Rony, I suggest upgrading to the latest 7. Jeff, thanks for your reply. You can still support H. I got the problem resolved. My lyncpool is abc. The domain id which i created for RMX was in abc. Which SIP domain is used is irrelevant, as long as they match on both sides.
I have been using 4. Can't get dial out to work. This article shows how to resolve Lync dialing issues with 4. On the RMX you can configure the conference profile for the desired meeting room to require a passcode and then Lync users can enter the passcode via DTMF codes. Jeff, thanks for you job. Help me please if you know how. There may be an incompatible hardware load balancer being used on your Lync pool.
When Lync and Polycom are integrated as mentioned in this article, what's is the best mobile client to choose: the Polycom RealPresence Mobile client or the Microsoft Lync Mobile client? Do they have similar functions and capabilities? These are two separate clients used for different purposes. The Polycom client provides for H. The Lync mobile client today is only an IM and Presence client and supports no audio or video calling features yet. Because I cannot complete video call.
I only complete audio call. The AES encryptation is configured with "When available". Do you know I can resolve this problem? Try using the most recent HDX software release 3. Note that full compatibility and official support for Lync registration and client interop is not yet available for the HDX as this will come in the next release.
I have configured my HDX and system with Lync and it shows available on Lync client successfully. Remove From My Forums. Answered by:. Archived Forums. Lync and OCS - Interoperability.
Sign in to vote. Thanks Ed Dempsey. Tuesday, February 7, PM. Shen Thursday, February 9, AM. That did the trick. Thanks very much. Cheers Ed. Wednesday, February 8, AM. Thursday, February 9, PM. Thank you for your help on this. It's definitely something inside of Lync as it simply stops using the defined static routes and acts like SIP messages to that route's MatchURI are undefined and then falls back to the Edge, assuming the namespace is external. I've only seen it some environments though as it's not very common.
Unsure if the Lync CU or topology has any impact on it. I have seen this randomly in the past and do not know the root cause as the issue is intermittent. However, as this as a managed service and for more flexibility in terms of scheduling I have been asked to do the same with meeting rooms directly created on the RMX. To me this is the same appart from the fact that the DMA handles the MR creation on the RMX in the first case while in the second case the MR is already created when the lync client dials in…..
Multipart SDP Invite is rejected with The inviting endpoint will send a new invite with no multipart. Have you ever encountered such an error? Is it possible to make call from a trusted application without trusted application endpoint SIP uri to a Lync client? Sure, the Trusted Application configuration allows for bidirectional traffic to be allowed. But understand that simply means the SIP traffic will be allowed though, it doesn't mean everything will work end-to-end.
For example if you are talking about calls from a DMA-registered endpoint placing a video call to a Lync client the call will make it through but the media session will not be established for a multitude of reasons.
When I configure a trusted application in lync server , I saw there is only a listening port. So if there is no connection from lync server to a trusted application, how can I send any message or call to lync server? Messages coming from that host to Lync have to arrive on the default Lync listening ports, for TLS.
Hi Jeff, Can I do integration between the Lync locate in domain a. We are setting up Lync integration with the DMA. We were wondering if the Lync and DMA-servers have to be in the same domain?
As of now they are in different domains. The necessary Lync setup is done. The domain name are irrelevant as long as the Trusted Application is defined, this is not optional. Wildcard certificates are not supported and the FQDNs must be included. Simply follow the latest deployment guide. Thank you Jeff. Everything but video now works for us. Can you shed some light at this? Al configuration has been done following the Polycom UC deployment guide.
You should contact you Polycom support channel for further assistance. Any possibility of getting this to work with an external video supporting PBX? Like Freeswitch? No sure what is happening here but I would run a trace on the calls to make sure that Lync is in fact routing the calls to the DMA and not still using the previous configuration to send traffic to the RMX.
If that is not the case then the DMA configuration would need to be fixed to resolve how the calls are landing into VMRs. Two issues actually:. It seems like we only get one way media to the RMX because the internal lync clients use a direct connection to the public IP of our RMX media card which causes a problem with media not NATing properly.
Looking at your comments above, weve done everything properly for the simple flow of Lync clients calling into VMR solution, nothing is configured on the RMX, is there something im missing here?
I can see internal Lync clients not sending back a reflexive address for STUN and im guessing thats because its on the same network. Not sure if this is the problem? Any guidance would be appreciated! Internal Lync clients should not be talking to the external Edge interface.
Thanks for your time. By the by, this and your other blog posts were critical to getting my integration running…if not simply to understand how the whole thing worked in the first place. Can I integrate both environments? The server namespace is irrelevant. I am having the same issue as Mack reported in August and just wondered if you know anyone that has fixed this issue?
Current having remove the static route completely and re-add the same static route again. Just wondered if MS have identified the issue and created a fix? Mack says: August 14, at am I have a Lync pool with two RMX s as trusted applications with their own static routes.
With the movement of most deployments to RealConnect the static route is no longer a part of the configuration. Hi Mate, We were able to connect to the polycom as well as S4B. But client wants to make use of the vmr on polycom to be accesible by all S4B that is federated. Yes it is possible, simply setup standard federation between the various SIP domains. Is it possible to add DMA as trusted application with out certificated based trust, I do not want SSL based communication between skype and polycom?
It may be possible, but may not function and may also not be supported at this point. Only one of these two types […]. Name required. Mail will not be published required. Follow jdscher. Home About.
