List of fun n64 games

Perfect Dark provides a wealth of options when it comes to game modes, maps, weapons, and playable characters. You can face up to three players, but you can also add up to eight AI bots.

And then there is the Counter-operative mode, which is a new twist on the classic cooperative formula. In this Perfect Dark mode, one player tries to complete campaign missions while the others play the role of enemy guards.

Despite its name, it is not perfect. The frame rate sometimes drops, especially when you add AI bots to a split-screen match. And outdated controls have a hard time getting used to it. Even with its defects, it is a game that guarantees many hours of fun. This fantastic title started it all. The Super Smash saga has become a real phenomenon, present in every video games tournament and one of my personal favorite video games of all time, not just one of the best multiplayer N64 games, but one of the best multiplayer games of all time.

Even though the first title of this famous franchise has a small selection of characters and settings compared to the most recent entries in the series, it is still ridiculously fun. It is the simplicity of the game that makes it so enjoyable even today. It is great for both newcomers and veteran players. Super Smash Bros is far from the game with the best graphics in N64, but this means that it can maintain an almost stable frame rate.

Thanks to that, the fights are quite fluid and hectic, and of course, very fun. Its multiplayer mode was the coolest and funniest that gamers had seen by that time.

There are multiple deathmatch options and great weapon selections, including automatics, power weapons, and remote mines. If this sounds too fancy, then you and your friends can just slap each other in the bathroom of the buildings. GoldenEye is a game that gave us many hours of fun with its single-player. But its incredible and complete multiplayer mode even gave us more hours of fun. Even though the single-player mode is excellent, the multiplayer mode is more fun and it is easily the best multiplayer N64 game ever made!

The first Mario Kart game came out on Super Nintendo in It was so popular that it marked the beginning for one of the most important sagas of Nintendo. Remembering what was innovative during the mid to late 90s.

It lets us appreciate how far games have come. There is no doubt for all of its failings that Nintendo 64 is synonymous with industry milestones, and it charted a lot of unknown territory for the company itself. Not to mention the introduction of the analogue stick on a mainstream home console. The Nintendo 64 maybe not be Nintendo's best system, but it is certainly deer to a lot of people, and the industry itself. So let's look back at Nintendo's last cartridge-based home console.

Here is a ranked list of the Nintendo 64s best games of all time. Let's begin with the worst best game. Only joking, well, mostly. Truthfully the first Mario Party isn't that bad. It's become tired thanks to Nintendo spewing out uninteresting sequels. It maybe changes once a generation, and that's being overly friendly. Anyway, the first game was a novel enough concept that is still pretty fun.

Ugly as hell, but it's good to pop out for nostalgia reasons, or if you're incredibly drunk. Playing Mario Party isn't the worst decision given that circumstance. Like Monopoly , the only real bad thing about Mario Party is how time-consuming it can be to play and set up. That said both sides also have some less than stellar titles.

There's a lot of dialogue and cutscenes that you can't skip, the platforming is average at best, and the jokes are extremely dated. On another note, it's all too vulgar. Swearing and eroticism are great, but this game tries too hard.

It's annoying more than it is bad, but I applaud Rare for trying something risky on a family friendly Nintendo device. I remember seeing this box at my local rental store all the time and it reminded me of Mega Man Legends. Hope maybe? Anyway, you're this tough-as-nails robot girl who must rescue a professor from the evil minions.

It's a side scrolling puzzle platformer that still plays great. You can dash and boost in multiple directions and grab enemies to shake them to death. This was in a pre- Wario Shake It world too. I have two issues that keep it from getting any higher.

One, while the character portrait art looks great as do the backgrounds, the in game models look off. The best way I can describe it? The models look too 3D if that makes sense. Two, it's painfully difficult. Gripes aside it's definitely one of the more unique titles on the console.

As I said in the list, it's not that the game is necessarily terrible. It loses the adventure of the mainline portable games. On its own though, and for the time, yeah, it was crazy awesome. Their move sets and animations still look really awesome today even if the models are a bit, er, jagged. Actually, I guess walking simulators are kind of the same laid back concept, but I digress.

You play as Todd Snap who has come to visit and aid Professor Oak in his research. It's a simple concept that's fun, but a little too short. I'm actually pretty surprised Nintendo never made a light gun shaped like a camera. If they had maybe I'd look back at this game more fondly. Bomberman's normal gameplay is fun when in groups, but I never found it compelling when playing with myself.

It's more, or less a puzzle series and that genre just doesn't suit me. So when I saw the cute bomber made a 3D action platformer I jumped on board. It's not the greatest platformer on the console.

Far from it, but it takes what made Bomberman special and applies it aptly into a fun little experience the whole family can enjoy. Donkey Kong really became a household name with Donkey Kong Country , which turned Donkey Kong from a titular arcade game villain to a lovable household name. You play as the titular ape as he defends his home from the invading King K.

Rool and his army of Kremlings. Players are incentivized to use all the characters too, rather than sticking to their favorites. However, there is still a lot of fun to have beyond that, especially with all of the quirky weapons and gadgets the game offers. For a game that has a lot to do and captures all of the light-hearted spirit of the console, Donkey Kong 64 is especially enjoyable.

Just be prepared to grab a lot of bananas. Star Fox 64 is considered by a lot of fans to be the last great game of the series, and it is also one of the best games on the Nintendo The game follows Fox McCloud and his team of anthropomorphic animal pilot crew.

However, several boss fights take the rails off and give players free reign to fight as they please. Console wars are as old as the industry itself industry itself.

In the s, the top dogs were Nintendo and Sega. Each had their own slew of games, competitively priced consoles, and iconic mascots to push product. After years of stiff competition, Nintendo would ultimately come away as the winner, making Sega a friendly business partner as opposed to fierce rival. What led Nintendo to victory over Sega in the long run? Part of it was an evolving cultural environment.

The 90s was packed with in-your-face edginess in youthful rebellion. Sonic the Hedgehog, in many ways, was the embodiment of this culture.

Behind the scenes, they were quietly working on their own console, and when they revealed at the CES, Nintendo abruptly ended their contract with Sony. Sony would beat Nintendo early on by introducing the first truly 3D games, and its host of exclusive titles made it a tempting offer for gamers looking for the latest and greatest.

In response, Nintendo released the Nintendo 64, or N64, in There are lots of reasons that make the Nintendo 64 a great console. For one, it was the only console at the time that allowed up to four players. This made it the perfect console for friends and family members to connect and play together. And Nintendo supported this feature with standout titles like Super Smash Bros. This was also a time when Nintendo had some of the biggest game studios in the world working with them. These games and several others were, by and large, masterpieces that would influence the gaming world for years to come.

Even Hey You, Pikachu , a wildly flawed game, had its own sense of charm. Plus, you get to pet Pikachu in it. The N64, in short, is a console that impacted children and adults across the world, and it's home to some of the absolute best games ever made. Nintendo would never be able to quite recapture that magic again until almost 20 years later with the Nintendo Switch, despite the charm and wonder of the GameCube , Wii, and Wii U.

In its heyday, N64 owners were graced with a ton of new and innovative accessories to go along with the groundbreaking console.

The N64 expansion pack was an accessory that increased the graphic power of the console. This meant that games could be enjoyed in higher definition. The game had to be compatible with the hardware in order to function properly. It was a genius development by Nintendo which offered consumers the choice to enjoy games in more detail.

Although mostly optional, two of the best N64 games, in particular, necessitate the use of the expansion pack. The marketing tactics behind the rollout of the N64 were fantastic. Nintendo could not have done a better job marketing the console and its accessories to consumers. One of the strokes of genius came in the form of offering the console in various colors. The N64 was available in standard grey upon release. Throughout the years, Nintendo rolled out several additional colors including some special edition consoles which totaled approximately They also released several special edition consoles with themes of iconic games such as Pokemon.

The color variations allowed traditional consumers to display their individuality through their color choice. It also created a frenzy amongst collectors who desired to own every color version possible. Moreover, game cartridges also took on different color schemes at times. Unfortunately, there are no N64 games available via the Nintendo Switch online service.

Nintendo Switch Online is a service that grants users access to various iconic Nintendo games of the past. Luckily there have been talks to introduce N64 games via Nintendo Switch Online.

Today it is incredibly difficult to enjoy the best N64 games due to the scarcity of the console and games. However, having them available virtually can essentially solve this problem. Despite being beloved by Nintendo fans, the N64 was not considered a console that earned high sales numbers.

Although it gave us classics such as The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and Super Mario 64, commercially the console failed to perform as Nintendo would have hoped. The N64 sold approximately The N64 ranks second amongst the fifth generation of video game consoles. Ultimately these numbers are skewed by the fact that the PlayStation was released in while the N64 was released in Pressing R as the primary robot launches a baton, which when lined up correctly allows players to switch perspectives.

While the game does support four players in coop, Hexen is best enjoyed with two people, due to screen size and technical performance. The second player controls Floyd, a robot that hovers next to the main player. The player controlling Floyd can aim and shoot, but only has one weapon, and is unable to move or take damage. Knife Edge: Nose Gunner is an on-rails first-person shooter imagine a light-gun game, but without the light gun!

You shoot at enemies by aiming an on-screen cursor and firing, and each player is given one that uniquely shaped and coloured to prevent confusion. Your primary weapon, the Vulcan Cannon, has unlimited ammo and each player can fire their cannon continuously and independently. However, all players are in the same ship and, as a result, share the same hit points and special weapons.

Also, players are unable to use the same special weapon simultaneously. Nevertheless, you and a friend can choose to team up to secure a podium finish and earn trophies, even if that means one player ultimately sacrificing themselves in the process by staying back and targeting opposing AI racers.
